Soapy Ducks - The French Alternative

Children of all ages love homemade rubber duckies. Simply use them instead of soap -they are wonderfully fragrant and they make great playmates in the bath! The recipe below makes two rubber duckies.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons gelatine1 tablespoon shampoo4 tablespoons boiling water2 drops of food colouring2 drops of scented oil (lavender, rose or other essential oil)2 cookie moulds (duck-shaped preferably but any shape will do)aluminium foil

Method

  1. Lightly oil the inside of the cookie moulds. Place them on pieces of aluminium foil, then roll the aluminium foil up around the edges of the moulds.
  2. Put the gelatine, food colouring and scented oil into a bowl.
  3. Add enough boiling water to just cover the gelatine. Add the shampoo and mix together very quickly.
  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared moulds and leave for 5-10 minutes to set.
  5. Gently press each duckie out of its mould. (Tip: if the duckie won't come out of the mould, carefully run a little hot water over it.)
  6. Wrap duckies in plastic wrap and store in a cool, dry spot. Don't put them in the fridge or they'll disintegrate.
